Oil, 4-stroke - Maxima 10w40 "Scooter Specific" Conventional

Although we like fully synthetic Motul brand 7100 series oil, the Maxima "scooter specific" 4 stroke is a great "value" choice for 4 stroke motor oil. It's formulated specifically for scooters and will do the job just fine.
This oil can be used on every 4 Stroke scooter on the road today. (Even for the scooters that call for 15W40)
Some people ask, "Wait, its 10W40, can't I just use 10W40 that I use for my car?" The answer is... we really don't recommend it. High revving scooter and motorcycle engines need their own oil formulas.

The 4 stroke version of the legendary Motul 710, Motul 7100! Motul is definitely one of (if not) the best 4 stroke synthetic oils out there. The Motul 7100 is a fully synthetic oil that is ester-based. We have been using it on our own 4 stroke scooters and also in our shop for years now. We highly recommend it!

Motul brand 7100 oil, due to its ester-base, also claims to provide full engine lubrication even before the engine is "warmed-up." We don't know how much of that is exclusive to Motul, but it sure sounds good to us!

We are a little surprised at how few stores sell transmission oil (aka gear oil). All scooters have transmissions and all of them use a transmission fluid that need to be replaced at certain intervals. Here we have Bel-Ray brand SAE 140 (85w-140).
This is used in many scooters, below is a list of some... This is what to use when your scooter calls for SAE 140 or 85W-140. Check your owners manual.

We recommend changing the gear oil about every year to a year and a half for automatics. You will also need a syringe for adding the gear oil. See our item "Syringe for Gear Oil" for that.

Need something to get that gear oil into your scooter? We thought so! This is the syringe we use at our shop just for this purpose. It can measure out exact amounts and comes with tubing that attaches to the end of the syringe for easily adding gear oil.

Looking for a lower cost alternative to the OEM Sentec brand oil filter? Here it is, HIFLRO FILTRO brand! While we have yet to perform a 10,000 mile cost analysis and oil deposit test, we think the HIFLRO FILTRO filter is just fine.
This filter fits on the following scooters
Genuine Buddy 125 & 150
Vespa LX150, ET4, GT200 & GTS 250
Biggest downside to the HIFLRO FILTRO filter, the head of the filter is non-stardard and requires a special tool (or some creative work) for replacement. See our "oil filter socket tool" for that.
Oil Filter, SENTEC Brand (factory replacement for both Piaggio/Vespa & Genuine/PGO)
The Sentec filter features a head that does not require a special tool or creative work to remove or replace (unlike the aftermarket filter).
